Emergencies

Physician On-Call During Non-Business Hours
There is no hospital or emergency room on Orcas Island, but Orcas Medical Center is a fully staffed family clinic, open year-round during regular business hours and available after hours for emergencies.

We can treat most common injuries – including lacerations, fractures, sprains and burns. We can also address most illnesses that visitors are likely to have.

Our facilities include an urgent-care area, X-ray equipment and minor surgery capabilities. To prevent typical injuries, we encourage wearing bike helmets, life vests, appropriate outdoor clothing and shoes.

Business Hours
Our regular hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Calls are answered by the receptionist in our office, and you will be given a same-day appointment, if possible.

After-Hours Care
After hours, your call will be answered by our answering-service operator. Be prepared to give your name, phone number, age of patient, and nature of the problem.

The physician on call should call you back very soon. Make sure the phone you are using remains available for an incoming call. If you do not hear back shortly, please call again.

Note: After-hours care requires an additional fee that may or may not be covered by your insurance. If your insurance does not cover this additional fee, you are personally responsible for its payment.

Insurance and Payment
We accept coverage by most major insurance carriers. We also accept major credit cards. For patients without insurance, we can provide a discount for payment on the day of service. Please bring your insurance information and driver’s license with you to our office.
